Rurban Habitat Model

BACKGROUND:

This project has a backdrop of the widespread manmade famines and the manmade ecological disasters and the exodus of environmental refugees migrating towards cities.

It also has tragic background of the suicides of farmers in all parts of the country Farmer’s suicides are just the tips of icebergs at very close distance from the fast crushing modern Titanic towards them. Considering these facts and figures, MKCL and I2SATCOM (International Institute of Science & Appropriate Technology) have undertaken an ambitious project at Ankoli Solapur, RURBAN, to accomplish the appropriate synthesis of strengths of Rural & Urban lifestyle. This Course has been designed as a part of this project.

INTRODUCTION:

This course is designed to introduce the RUBAN (Rural+Urban) living at one of the RURBAN Habitat in Maharashtra, It includes Notes, in depth tours, interaction with Rurban habitat residents. Participants see working examples of sustainable design and practices, theory applied, ecological infrastructure solutions.
The Rurban habitat is a synthesis of strengths of urban as well as rural living.

The Rurban habitat Design Course will provide a strong theoretical base in the design and development of ecologically designed settlements in rural or urban settings. The course will include eco-design principles and processes, techniques and tools, assessments and management, financing options, community building, skills required in starting such a project.
